INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER |
In most cases there is little difficulty with the Internet Service Provider (ISP) used to access the Internet for online courses. Dial up, cable or DSL connections are acceptable, but the ISP must be reliable and allow for constant and stable access to the Internet.
Minimum requirements for hardware to access online courses are listed below.
PC:
333 Mhz Intel Pentium II Processor
64 MB RAM
2 Gigabyte Hard Drive
15" Monitor
56 Kbps Modem
Windows 98, ME or XP
CD drive
Printer
Mac:
Macintosh OS X
15" Monitor
56 Kbps Modem
CD drive
Printer
Web Browser
Most computers have a web browser installed when they are purchased, or the Internet Service Provider provides a copy of one when their service is purchased.
ANGEL Learning functions well in many browsers, the following are formally supported and tested:
- With PCs running Windows OS: Internet Explore 7x, and Mozilla Firefox
- With Macs running OS X:Mozilla Firefox
Word Processing
Because word processing is a necessity in virtually any college course today, online students must have access to a word processing program that is capable of saving files in both plain (ASCII) text files or rich text format files. The rich text format (.RTF) file format can be read by any word processor and works well when attaching proprietary word processing files to e-mail or submitting assignments in the course dropbox. Students who are using Office Vista must save their files as Word 97-2003 documents. Online students should be prepared to use their programs' Copy/Paste functions to copy text into e-mail or text boxes.
E-mail
All Butler students receive a Pipeline account when they enroll. Pipeline is Butler's information portal which includes access to email, college announcements, final grades, calendar, course schedule and online enrollment. This is also the method by which you will receive information on logging onto your course. For information on accessing and using a Pipeline account, plus other helpful Pipeline info go to http://www.butlercc.edu/p@b/tutorial.htm
